About the Exhibition

Every year the Hunter acquires artworks that represent our growing and changing nation. As these significant works come into the collection, we re-envision our galleries to reflect new juxtapositions and to tell the American story in timely, relevant ways.

VIVID offers a fresh look at lost or overlooked histories and stories. Each artist whose work is featured in the gallery interrupts established narratives by provoking reflection about history and perspective. Although each speaks to personal issues, the works communicate on a global stage, one that interweaves American happenings with those worldwide. Whether through their larger-than-life scale, bold colors or dramatic personas and events they summon, these pieces demand our attention, pulling us in for deeper exploration and understanding.
