HUNTER MUSEUM & EDUCATORS
EDUCATOR GALLERY NIGHTS & WORKSHOPS
Educators are invited to the Hunter Museum for free on Educator Gallery Nights! Enjoy access to hands-on activities and classroom resources during the Education Workshop starting at 4pm, then stick around for the opening of our newest exhibition at 6pm. The workshops qualify for professional development credits and offer educators an opportunity to plan field trips, develop curriculum with museum staff and enjoy time in the museum with each other!
Upcoming Educator Nights & Workshops:
- Gilded: Thursday, September 21, 2023
- Networked Nature: Thursday, January 25, 2024
If you are interested in ways to connect your classroom to artwork at the Hunter or integrate art into your curriculum, please contact cbespalec@huntermuseum.org.
ARTSBUILD Imagine! PROGRAM – 5TH GRADE
Each grade level is paired with the following program partners:
- Kindergarten – Creative Discovery Museum
- First Grade – Chattanooga Theatre Centre
- Second Grade – Chattanooga Ballet
- Third Grade – Chattanooga Symphony & Opera
- Fourth Grade – SoLit Theatre Express
- Fifth Grade – Sculpture Fields at Montague Park
- Fifth Grade – Hunter Museum of American Art
Teachers appreciate participating in the Imagine! program because the arts experiences integrate well with state standard curriculum to enhance learning in the classroom. Kelly Shimel, Fine Arts Coordinator for Hamilton County Schools, says, “Arts education and programming helps students develop vital communication and problem-solving skills. Through the support of ArtsBuild, all Hamilton County School elementary school students have access to arts programming which provides equitable access to arts experiences that help our students thrive and experience a future without limits! We are also excited that field trips will resume this year, as nothing can quite replace experiencing the arts in a hands-on or physical performance setting.”
STUDENT EXHIBITIONS
The Hunter offers space to exhibit student work on a monthly basis to celebrate the hard work and creative talents of young artists.
Tell us how you have responded to Hunter Museum’s collection! The Education Studio Hall Student Gallery provides a 33 x 4 ft. display wall space that can accommodate 2-D works and limited 3-D works that do not project out more than six inches and that can be hung on a flat wall with nails or push pins. Documentation of work and the lesson process is also encouraged!
Please fill out the following application which contains detailed information about how to hang work at the Hunter. Please email Manager of School and Community Programs, Kris Bespalec at cbespalec@huntermuseum.org, after the form has been filled out to confirm your application was received and to finalize plans for installation if approved. Thank you!
