Richard Hunt helped define the role of public sculpture in the late 20th century. He created over 130 large-scale public sculptures and is in the collection of more than 40 museums throughout the United States. Thirty years ago, the artist was commissioned to create a site-specific sculpture for the lobby of the Hunter Museum – Spatial Interactions: Aerographic Forms and Cantilevered Confluence. This tradition of commissioning artworks by living artists continues as we plan to unveil a new sculpture by Alyson Shotz in February 2019. In celebration of Shotz’s sculpture, we will explore the Hunter’s previously commissioned sculpture and a collection of prints and maquettes by Richard Hunt.
