Spectrum | Hunter Museum of American Art 7.0.33-0+deb9u12

Presented for over 20 years by First Horizon, Spectrum is a two evening event.

We hope you will join us!

Join us for this year’s Spectrum, Gilded Edition! Chaired this year by museum supporters Nicole and Bo Watson and presented for over 20 years by First Horizon, Spectrum features two events – first, a silent auction cocktail party on Thursday, November 9 and second, a black-tie, seated dinner and live auction on Saturday, November 11.

Both events will include unique experiences and opportunities to add to your art collection as well as to support the museum.  Art Selection Chairs Allison and Marc Cromie and their committee have visited art galleries across the country and chosen for the auctions an incredible array of beautiful, one-of-a-kind artworks.

Whether you choose to attend one or both Spectrum events, bid on auction items (which you can do even if you don’t attend Spectrum) or make a contribution directly to the museum, please know your participation will support the Hunter’s mission of connecting people of every background to creativity, knowledge, and ideas.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Spectrum 2023?
  • The Silent Auction Cocktail Party is Thursday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m.
  • The Gala and Live Auction is Saturday, November 11 at 6:00 p.m.

May I preview the auction works in person before the Spectrum events begin?

  • Yes. Beginning Friday, November 3, anyone may visit the museum during open hours, free of charge, to view the auction items in advance of the Spectrum events.

I will be attending Spectrum. Why should I create a BidPal account?

  • All bidding for the Silent Auction items is conducted through BidPal, as is the checkout process for both auctions. To streamline your event experience, we encourage all Spectrum attendees to create or access their BidPal account by Tuesday, November 7; to do so, simply click the “Sign In” button at the top of this page and follow the prompts. You will be required to enter your credit card information prior to placing bids.

May I bid if I am not able to attend Spectrum in person?

  • Yes!
    • For individuals interested in bidding on items in the Live Auction, please contact Elizabeth Le for information regarding our sealed bid process.
    • Bidding for the Silent Auction is conducted through BidPal, so anyone, even if not physically present, may bid on items in the Silent Auction until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, when the Silent Auction will close.

How can I bid?

Silent Auction bidding takes place online through BidPal and anyone may place bids on items in the silent auction beginning Friday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m. until Thursday, November 9 at 9:00 p.m.

  • Sign in to access or create your BidPal account (if you’ll be attending Spectrum in person, be sure to register with the smartphone number you will be bringing to the event). The Silent Auction closes and no bids will be accepted after 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9.
  • For those who will not be present for the Live Auction on Saturday, November 11, please contact Elizabeth Le for information regarding our sealed bid process.

How does the “Max Bid” option simplify bidding?

  • When you are the current high bidder on an item, the BidPal app will prompt you to set a “Max Bid.” Once you confirm your max bid, whenever your current bid is outbid by another bidder, BidPal will bid incrementally on your behalf, up to your “Max Bid” amount. You won’t have to constantly be incrementally increasing your bid – BidPal will do it for you. BidPal will send you a text message in case your Max Bid is outbid and you can adjust your bid at that point if you wish.

How does the “Buy it Now” option work?

  • For a limited time, Silent Auction works may be purchased outright using the “Buy it Now” button. Any works that don’t have bids in excess of the listed “Buy It Now” price may be purchased outright for the listed “Buy It Now” price and will be marked “sold” at the Silent Auction.  The “Buy it Now” option expires at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 9.

How may I view my bidding activity, account information, or receipt?
