Often, the sounds, sights, and smells of familiar activities spark the feeling of nostaliga. Holiday traditions are especially good at this. This activity could be a new favorite tradition for you. The cinnamon scent of these ornaments might remind you of Christmases past or a cozy cabin on a snowy day like in these paintings.

Let the feeling of nostalgia inspire you as you as follow the instructions below. These ornaments be stored and reused year after year. Note: These ornaments are for decoration only. They are not edible.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°F.
  2. Mix the applesauce and cinnamon in a small bowl until a smooth ball of dough is formed. You may need to use your hands to incorporate all of the cinnamon.
  3. Using about 1/4 of the dough at a time, roll dough to 1/4 –inch to 1/3–inch thickness between two sheets of plastic wrap. Peel off the top sheet of plastic wrap.
  4. Cut the dough into shapes with 2 to 3-inch cookie cutters. Make a hole at the top of the ornament with drinking straw or skewer.
  5. Place the ornaments on a baking sheet. Bake for 2 1/2 hours. When they’re finished baking, place the ornaments on a wire rack to cool.
  6. Insert the ribbon through holes and tie to hang. You can decorate them with opaque paint markers if desired.
