Museum Policies

Backpacks, backpack-style purses, baby back carriers, umbrellas and other bulky items must be checked in the coat room located at Visitors' Services. Eliminating items carried on one's back decreases the possibility of backing into something.

Food and drink are not allowed in the galleries. Smoking is prohibited in the museum. Gum must be disposed of appropriately.

Please do not touch any work of art. The slightest touch to the surface can create permanent damage. No climbing is allowed on outdoor sculptures.

Visitors and students are permitted to sketch in the galleries after reviewing and signing the Museum's Permission to Sketch policy which can be obtained at Visitors' Services. Pens, markers or paint are prohibited in the galleries. Please do not use walls or glass cases to lean against or write on.

Photography by visitors for private, non-commercial use is allowed anywhere in the museum EXCEPT in the temporary exhibition galleries. No flash photography or tripods are allowed. Anyone wishing to reproduce in photographic form any object in the collection for educational or commercial use must put his/her request in writing to the Registrar.
